The decision by the new coalition government to promote green investments has been welcomed by the sustainable investment community.
With the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives having formed a government together, one of the pledges in a new coalition agreement is to set up a green investment bank .
Penny Shepherd, chief executive of UKSIF, said: "A green bank would play an important role in finding investment for the large scale infrastructure projects that our country needs and will do much to encourage private sector investment to these.
"The proposal's inclusion, and indeed similar plans for a green bank from the Labour party, illustrates that this is now an urgent issue that cuts across party politics."
She added that the organisation hoped green individual savings accounts could also make their way onto the agenda for the coalition government.
UKSIF has previously said that any new green investment banks should try to leverage private sector investment from pension funds and private individuals.
