The fact that the World Cup is being held in South Africa serves to highlight the investment opportunities in the region, it has been claimed.
According to Sonal Pandit, manager of the JPM Africa Equity Fund at JP Morgan Asset Management, the arrival of the World Cup in South Africa helps to underline the country's stability and its progress in recovering from the global recession .
Crucially, Mr Pandit believes this will help to promote South Africa, and the continent as a whole, as a viable location for investment, and expects this trend to continue long after the World Cup final is held on July 11th.
"We believe Africa as a continent, not just South Africa, presents a compelling investment opportunity for long-term investors," he confirmed.
"In recent years, many countries have undergone political reform and moved towards democracy. Obviously, Africa is more appropriate for those with a higher tolerance to risk, but it is a demographic inevitability that investors will look to Africa for investment returns ."
Another key factor to consider is that the UN has forecast that Africa's population will grow at a faster rate than anywhere else in the world over the next five years.
This is likely to impact on demand and create further investment opportunities .
