New chairman at Association of Investment Companies

The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has elected a new chairman to take on the role in January.

Sarah Bates will take over the position from Carol Ferguson, who has spent the last three years in the role.

She has already been on the AIC's board since December 2006 and has over 30 years of investment experience with a number of companies, including Invesco, JP Morgan and New India Investment Trust .

The chairman elect said: "I am very much looking forward to becoming chairman of the AIC and tackling the challenges which lie ahead.

"The past few years have been a testing yet fascinating time for the investment company industry and I have no doubt that the years ahead will continue to be just as interesting."

She also pointed out the main challenges that lie ahead for the industry, including the retail distribution review, which will radically change the way in which independent financial advisers operate.
