Majority of Britons do not understand investments, says expert

The majority of Britons don't understand pensions and they don't understand investments, one expert has claimed.

Speaking about the areas in which most people wanted financial advice, Phil Perry, co-founder and co-director of Ark Financial Planning, observed that there is a distinct order of doing things.

"Start by doing protection, retirement, savings and investment, in that order. If you don't have the fundamentals in place, the protection elements, then your long term retirement planning will disappear," he remarked.

Recent information from unbiased.co.uk revealed that retirement planning was the most sought after financial advice, with investments and savings also seeing much interest.

Meanwhile, Tim Drayson, economist at Legal and General Investment Management, observed recently that additional quantitative easing measures introduced by the US Federal Reserve can sustain asset prices .

He explained that this may see consumers spending more, leading to increased activity later in the year.

The US faces some major hurdles in the longer-term, Mr Drayson said.
