Asian sell-off creates opportunity for investing

Wed, 04 Aug 2010

Despite declines in the financial markets, Asia looks set to escape the worst impact of the European debt problem, it has been argued.

Andrew Beal, portfolio manager at Henderson TR Pacific Investment Trust plc, explained that despite the current European debt crisis, economic data indicates that Western problems will have a limited impact in Asia.

Further to this, Mr Beal predicts that the region's markets will return ten to 20 per cent by the end of this year.

"Depending on the country in question," he explained, "Europe receives approximately ten to 20 per cent of Asian exports resulting in five to ten per cent of Asian GDP exposed to Europe, thus even in a very negative scenario we would see, at most, a couple of percentage points knocked off Asian GDP growth."

Meanwhile, Defaqto, the independent financial research company, recently published a free guide to alternative investments .

The guide is specifically designed to introduce advisers to some of the asset classes and investment techniques that retail fund managers are now incorporating in their investment processes.
