NS&I offers high street saving and investment advice

Wed, 04 Nov 2009

National Savings and Investments (NS&I) has unveiled a new strategy to help UK consumers take control of their financial destinies.

Free personal finance guides are to be distributed by NS&I in partnership with WH Smith as part of an effort to help Britons manage their money more effectively.

Guides will be themed around major life events such as children, bereavement and retirement, while advice will also be offered on savings and investments and premium bonds .

According to Tish Hanifan, chairman of the Society of Later Life Advisers, having financial information available on the high street will be a big bonus for consumers.

"All too often people stumble across situations in life for which they are not fully prepared, because finance matters can seem daunting," he commented.

"NS&I is making it easier for people to prepare for their future circumstances from having children, to planning for a comfortable retirement."

Last month, NS&I announced new interest rates for its one, two, three and five-year Guaranteed Growth Bonds and Guaranteed Income Bonds, with an annual equivalent rate of 3.95 per cent available on one-year terms.
