Investment adviser the Share Centre has given a list of ten of the best dividends available at the moment, after the news that Marks and Spencer was cutting its package.
Companies with good dividend investments include National Grid, Northumbrian, British American Tobacco, Centrica, BP, GlaxoSmithKline, Vodafone, Scottish and Southern Energy, Rexam and RSA Insurance .
Nick Raynor, investment adviser at the Share Centre, said those looking for high returns have been hit hard by the credit crunch this year, with historically-safe funds being eroded.
He said: " Investors should be looking out for companies that are traditionally defensive, coupled with an ability to expand operations around the world."
Banking giant HSBC recently announced new funds to allow retired people to make investments into the global equity market while securing 100 per cent of any returns.
