The year ahead could be a good time to invest in the stock market, according to one expert.
Sanjeev Shah, portfolio manager of Fidelity's Special Situations Fund, explained that the large price falls seen in 2008 mean that people should be able to pick up some bargain investments .
"We may not have passed the trough for stocks yet and the economy is likely to be in recession for some time but analysis of fundamentals leads me to be more optimistic about stock market opportunities," he said.
People should consider investing in banking stocks and those of other financial companies, he added.
However, people should make sure they spread their investments across a number of firms in order to reduce the risk they face, Mr Shah stated.
Yesterday, The Children's Mutual encouraged parents to invest the increased rates of benefits they will be receiving.
According to the firm, putting the cash in a child trust fund will help build up a nest egg for their offspring.
