The inauguration of Barack Obama is a milestone for green investment, according to one expert.
Charlie Thomas, manger of the Jupiter Ecology investment fund, explained that president Obama's pledge to create an environmental-friendly US could boost the sector.
"In his quest to stabilise the US economy, he has outlined a targeted spending plan that should create long term growth opportunities for businesses at the forefront of the transition to a green economy," he said.
For this reason, people investing in the area should look at what opportunities there are America, he added.
However, any laws relating to the field will take some time to pass and green investments are still vulnerable to the wider economic turmoil, he cautioned.
Earlier this week, Pramit Ghose, manager of the Elite Bloxham Global Equity Income investment fund, claimed that US equities should outperform those of other countries in the year ahead, although the start of the year will be characterised by volatility.
