The Share Centre brings investments to schools

Tue, 25 Aug 2009

A competition aimed at educating young people in how shares and investments work has been launched by one assets management firm.

The Share Centre's Shares4Schools contest, which will start in October, is to allow year 11 students across the UK to make investments into the stock market using real money in order to teach them about the economy.

Each group entering the competition will receive £1,500 to invest, with the aim of achieving the greatest return by June 2010, and schools will be able to keep any earnings they make.

Ian Benning, coordinator for Shares4Schools, said: " Teachers have found that students spend more time researching their investments and think twice before committing to a share when real money is involved. Plus, participating in the competition also helps to develop team working and decision making skills."

Parents looking to provide the funds for their children's education as the school term draws closer were recently advised by BlackRock to look into making investments into the stock market .
