Tue, 18 Nov 2008

One investment fund is celebrating its tenth birthday with the news it has outperformed many of its rivals.

The Standard Life Investments' European Equity Growth fund has provided a return of 42.2 per cent since it launched on November 16th 1998.

According to the investment firm, this is 15.9 per cent more than the average fund in the sector.

Jacqueline Kerr, head of mutual fund investments at the company, said: "The [management] team has used Standard Life Investments' focus on change investment process to steer the way through difficult market conditions."

This means that they have been able to foresee many changes in European stock markets, she added.

James Ramos Martin, manager of the investment fund, added that he expects the product to perform well after the current economic downturn ends.

Yesterday, Clerical Medical suggested that gold could be a safe investment during the current turmoil.

According to research by the firm, the value of the precious metal has risen by eight per cent since the start of the credit crunch, while the FTSE has seen prices drop by 28 per cent.
