Britons are true friends in need, as 75 per cent would gladly lend money to a friend in need.
According to research by Halifax unsecured personal loans, a third of people would ask a friend to give them a short-term personal loan if they are in a pinch.
Young Britons are quickest to ask friends to help them out. Of those aged between 18 and 24, 52 per cent will not hesitate to ask a friend for a short-term personal loan, compared to only 15 per cent of those over 65.
Men are more likely than women to ask their friends for a short-term personal loan, but they also seem more generous loan lenders than women.
Over a third of men will ask a friend for a short-term personal loan, and when they are asked for a short-term loan 11 per cent of them would agree to lend more than £2,000.
That is compared to women, where only a quarter is prepared to ask a friend for a short-term loan. Only six per cent of female loan lenders will be willing to give a friend a short-term loan in excess of £2,000.
