Quick questions to ask your share broker (or to check on their website):

• How much will you pay for each share transaction?
• How reliable are their dealing systems. If they are unavailable at a time you are trying to buy or sell a rapidly moving share, the money you lose will be far greater than any saving you make on the transaction costs.
• Will you pay reduced charges for completing a large number of trades each year?
• What trading limit will you be given? This may start at around £15,000 for new accounts with online brokers, and can rise too a much larger figures for regular traders of large volumes of shares. You should expect brokers to conduct a credit score before setting your trading limit.
• Do they offer any form of telephone or other support? Some online share dealing services will also allow you to trade through their call centres, although it is likely that the transaction charges will be £2.50 to £5.00 more expensive for doing this
